Letters of intent is the starting point of the guarantee process. This letter is normally issued on behalf of the contractor confirming that it has the relevant facility in place to obtain guarantees from the financial institution that issue the LOI.

The LOI normally contains information of the specific project that the contractor is tendering for and that the Guarantor has the intent to issue these guarantees in favour of the relevant beneficiary (employer) should the client/
